   1) Carlisle: 1922. The leather fenders of a saddle; they are located under the stirrup-leathers and are about the same length.

   Also known as sudaderos.

   2) The term also refers to bedrolls, according to Watts. Islas is the only Spanish source to reference this term, but he does not concur. He states that it may refer to a protective piece of leather tied on the right leg and fastened at the waist to keep the reata (rope) from rubbing or chafing. Alternately, it refers to a piece of leather attached to the loop of the rope itself for a similar purpose.
